I am currently pregnant by using donor eggs and my husband’s sperm and I feel nothing but guilt in this pregnancy I was diagnosed with pcos and didn’t give myself a chance to be put under egg retrieval process cause I was told of so much risk involved due to one ovary being multicystic and the other being polycystic, I was told I could have hyper ovulation syndrome and part of my right ovary could be cut of as it might twist on itself and I may be hospitalised I was told the whole thing could also affect implantation I didn’t want to take the risk of going through so much pain and eating so much money so I prayed and took the step of using donor eggs . I got pregnant immediately and now everyone tells me congratulations and I feel guilty, I feel disconnected from the baby and I feel fear that I’ll have to lie to this child all their life by not telling them they are not my child genetically , I feel guilty that I prayed so long to see those positive lines and now all I feel is disconnect, I’m beginning to feel sadness instead of joy and don’t know how to pray cause I feel guilty and ashamed to even stand before God

Hello, I have myself been though years of unexplained infertility and IVF and now that I am on the otherwise, I am wanting to give back to the community and help others on this journey. I am also psychologist and researcher at a UK university and am now embarking on a series of research studies looking at how best we can support women mental health and well-being as they go through infertility. I am currently studying the link between how much self-compassion someone has and how well they cope during infertility. I am seeking UK females currently experiencing infertility to take part in the study. Currently there is no research on this in UK females, and the hope is that by establishing the evidence base we can then develop support resources to help whilst experiencing infertility. If you are able to take part, please click here: https://shusls.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8kw7reIB97Hh9FI Many thanks - happy to answer any questions if anyone wants to know more before taking part in the study?

Hello everyone, my name is Laura, I am 40 and have one daughter that we had with IVF (ICSI, successful pregnancy was a FET which took 3 cycles and our 5th transfer) we are now back again to try for a second child and have been undergoing IVF for the last 2 years. We have had 7 failed transfers, and two successful ones but sadly both ended in miscarriage before the 12 week scan. We are about to start a new a FET with Care Fertility.. and until now we have always got a prescription for our medication and sourced this ourselves from a great pharmacist near Baker Street. However our clinic have said that they have a new policy that we have to use their chosen provider (Stork) who charge more than double for the same medication or they will charge us £250 for each prescription… this seems completely immoral and surely they can’t force this or impose such a ridiculous fee ? Has anyone else come across this … I’m just shocked after years of getting our own medication with no issue … Laura

We have our first meeting tomorrow and because we are being rushed through due to my low egg count, it didn't occur to me about my marital status. My divorce got held up in the courts, and has been reapplied for, due to be coming through end of March. My partner and myself have been together 3 years, we miscarried 2 years ago and had no success since. After investigation they had recommended IVF and that we need it now. My question is, will it be effected by the fact I'm still married to my ex? I'm panicing 😭

How did you make the decision to do IVF? We have been trying to conceive for 18 months. We are both 32. Had all the tests - he’s fine, I have PCOS (affecting hormones, progesterone and ovulation). I’m on all the right meds. We really want to start a family. Should we just do IVF or try longer naturally? It is starting to get me down.

Hi, looking for anyone that may have experienced total fertilisation failure. Were you able to get any answers or go on to have success? We had 12 eggs collected recently and 0 fertilised but we don’t know why. Thank you.

Hi, I’m sorry, it’s such a blow! We’ve had the same happen on our first cycle. We tried again and got a 4 embryos to blastocyst, transferred 2 but unfortunately the others did not meet the criteria to freeze. We got pregnant but sadly miscarried. We have just done a 3rd cycle and had total failure again 😭 we have a follow up consultation at the end of the month, really hoping some light can be shed on to what’s going on.

Hello just wondering if anyone has any experience with drug resistance in IVF. I have lots of follicles that just don’t seem to respond to the medication? TIA
3/2/2024
I have only had one round of medication and my follicles didn’t seem to respond, have you managed to speak to someone at the clinic your being treated at to see what insight they can provide. I know there’s not much to read online.
5/2/2024
Hello thanks for your reply. I have had lots of rounds now with the same outcome. They have tried changing doses and medication etc but not with any improvement. Just wondered if any other clinics did anything different.?

Hello I’m a newbie to IVF . Had a round of IUI which which gave a positive result but ended up miscarrying my twins. I am 39 and decided I didn’t want to waste any more time and am in the process of my down cycle in IVF . I am taking Provera twice a day . I suffer from terrible PMDD and am scared for this whole treatment with regards to my mental health . Did anyone have any side effects on their down cycle or was it manageable? Thank you

I was just wondering if anyone has had any success, (or knows what the success rates are?) for IVF or ICSI with 0% morphology? My partner has a good count and mobility/active mobility but 0% that are the correct shape/size/form. He has a daughter from a previous relationship and that makes us uneligable for NHS IVF, so we just want to investigate our chances more before we go ahead with our first round and to decide if IVF or ICSI is the right decision for us.
31/1/2024
Hi, I know it’s not quite the same, but very similar, one of my best friends is currently 32 weeks pregnant with her first, her husband had only 1% morphology and they were advised to do ICSI for this reason. They were successful with their 1st round. I’m looking at doing ICSI for our 2nd round, we just did our first, had 12 eggs collected last week and none of them fertilised so ICSI and Zymot is the next step for us.
31/1/2024
Thank you so much that is really helpful! I think we will go forward with the ICSI and hopefully they manage to find a couple of good ones with the least amount of defects!

Hi All, My wife and I are doing a donor egg Embryo transfer later this year and I am chasing Work From Home so I can do more housework and massages for my wife before the embryo transfer. We have 1 daughter Nicole who is 3 and is asking for a baby sister or brother. For the women who are preparing for transfer how much of a difference does a husband pampering help psychologically? Sincere thanks for your honest responses and God bless everyone trying! My Uncle who is in his seventies asked about IVF as he has a 40 year old girlfriend so I am sharing advice with him one for al and all for one

Hi, I’m new here! To be honest, I’ve joined as mentally I’m struggling. It would be great to meet a friend that understands how painful this all is. Hubby and I are based in Peterborough, Cambs. I’m step mum to my partners 3 incredible kids who we have with us 50:50. Hubby had a successful vasectomy reversal 3 years ago not long after we met. Unfortunately him having the reversal and him having children rules out treatment fee support. I’ve never been pregnant and have a historic diagnosis of PCOS. I was diagnosed aged 25, 6 years ago after trying for 5 years with my first husband. I left that relationship just as I was diagnosed. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made as ultimately I knew leaving at 25 and starting again would affect my chances of becoming a mum. I realised that we were in it for the wrong reasons. Meeting Joe 2 years later proved that to be the right call. Really we are right at the start of our journey. Unfortunately, my GP has messed about with my referral for, no joke, 18 months! They’ve now just come back to say some of the results are out of date and the referral has been rejected. I’ve had enough and am going private. It’s frustrating as I hoped I could get a diagnosis and have next steps clear without having to fork out but here we are! I’ve recently celebrated my birthday and it just feels hopeless. I’m getting older and all we’ve got ahead is high costs and stress. It’s overwhelming. I’m just glad we can take a step to get some control, even if it costs! What can I expect after diagnostics? With PCOS I know Clomid and Metformin can help - is that offered privately or is it straight to IVF? Any thoughts, advice welcomed. Sorry for the essay! Holly
21/1/2024
Hi Holly - right, the first thing we need to do is get you back in that positive mindset. It sounds like you're in a wonderful position with Hubby & being a step mum. I know first hand that the fertility journey can be sooooo frustrating especially if you've been trying to go through the NHS. I ended up having to go private in the end too and it took away all the stress that I was feeling about having to wait so long on the NHS! You honestly will find it so much easier. Have you decided on a private clinic / consultant locally in Cambs or are you heading down to London? Ali x
21/1/2024
Hi Holly. I really feel for you. I feel very similar. The overwhelming stress of how much you may need to endure is horrible and at times unbearable. I too am step-mum to my partners 6 year old and he lives with us full time. I understand that having children around you can be great but it can also be at times at difficult. Ive spoken to someone else who said the same thing. I don't feel like my partner fully understands how I feel as he's done it all before, which is hard when you get down about it. I spoke to someone and hearing that they had felt similar helped me feel better about it. Being automatically ruled out of funding when I'm raising someone else's child as they were unfit was also a big kick in the face! However I found that as we had to go private, dealing directly with the clinics was much less stressful as you actually get to speak to someone on the phone quite easily. At our consultation they mentioned drugs for inducing ovulation etc so they wouldn't just rush you straight for IVF if there is something else they could try. I'd say bring it up yourself as I guess some places may just try and sell you IVF but they definitely shouldn't if they are any good!! Hope you managed to get some more information on this x

Hi, I had my first round of IVF with the BCRM clinic in Bristol, which was luckily funded by the NHS. We're now looking to start our second round and are researching the various clinics in and around Bristol (BCRM is quite pricey!) - does anyone have any recommendations or good/bad experiences with any of the Bristol clinics? Thank you in advance for your help! 😃

Hi, my clinic has recommended a 4d scan (saline) it doesn't seem like this is a standard test. Anyone else had the same test before? What is the propose of it?
17/1/2024
Hi - is that the same as a HyCoSy scan? If so, I had it and it was absolutely fine. Basically it just tests to make sure you don't have any fibroids, polyps or abnormalities etc in your uterine cavity. Making sure there are no blockages!

Hi all, I am soon to be starting IVF treatment and have ben given some costs to look through including medication costs. I was told that ASDA sell IVF medication at cost, so was hoping to make a reasonable saving by purchasing from them when the time comes. However having called ASDA pharmacy and been given prices there was very little difference compared to what my clinic have quoted, in fact on one of the items the price was higher. For example my clinic quoted £342 each for GonalF 900iu pens, ASDA's price was £338.40, a saving of just £3.60 can this really be an "at cost" price? and for Ganirelix Gedeon Richter my clinic quoted £22 each and ASDA's price came in at £27. Has anyone had experience of looking to buy their meds elsewhere and found the same? Many thanks, Tracey.
17/1/2024
I've been given my prescription for meds for my first IVF cycle. My consultant recommended getting quotes from Asda Pharmacy & The Fertility Medication Centre, as that'll be cheaper than getting though the clinic. I've requested a quote from the latter but wondering if anyone has any other tried any other companies too that were a decent price and hassle free?

17/1/2024
Hi all, has anyone purchased their meds via ASDA? if so did you find much difference in price between them and your clinic's quote? I called ASDA and asked for pricing and there was very little difference. On one item ASDA were actually more expensive. I thought ASDA sold IVF meds at cost? Thanks for your input, Tracey.
17/1/2024
I got mine from Asda, the prices were cheaper (think they do IVF drugs at cost price?). However, beware - it ended up costing me more in the long run as the consultant prescribed too much. I had drugs for e.g. 16 days (can't remember exactly how many days) but responded quicker than expected so had the trigger after 13 days and was left with around £500 worth of unused menopur and cetrotide.
17/1/2024
I've had mixed reviews of the Asda prices, i.e. That they claim 'non profit' but aren't always the cheapest. My entire package purchased through the clinic was under 1k (including all meds, needles etc absolutely everything) so not sure if it would have been cheaper elsewhere but didn't actually shop around.

Louise I did acupuncture and thought it really helped - mostly to calm the nerves in my case!! Good luck with it all - exciting!!
17/1/2024
Hi - I had 2/3 months of fertility acupuncture. It’s just the same as normal acupuncture except it’s about going for points on your body to help depending where you are in your cycle. It was so relaxing and lovely! Unfortunately I can’t say it worked for us, but that’s due to finding out later on that we had MFI. We’re now pregnant with our IVF miracle, and I also had acupuncture throughout this time too. Definitely worth it because it was bloody lovely!
17/1/2024
Did it once for ivf, first time success. Doing it again for baby 2, don't know if it has worked yet. There is scientific evidence to say it does improve your chances with ivf but it isn't going to be a guarantee in any way.

Hi all, I have been TTC for 9 years, doing IVF at Guy’s in London through NHS. The first transfer ended up in chemical pregnancy, the second was unsuccessful and third one was cancelled because they found polyps in my uterus. I was referred for Hysteroscopy to have them removed and this was done at the end of November successfully. They send the sample to histology and said I can start another FET as soon as histology results are back. And here comes the problem. I still haven’t had the results back yet, the doctor who did it was not overly bothered and said I have to be patient. The admin in the hospital said that it never takes more than 2-6 weeks and it’s 2 months now and still haven’t got it. I really worry that if we wait too long the polyps will be back and the Hysteroscopy would have been for nothing. Anyone has any experience with how long the results normally take or advise from their doctor what the ideal time between Hysteroscopy and FET is? Thanks :-)

Hi Carrie - how did it go?
16/1/2024

Hi, I’m on day 4 of stimulation injections and have tested positive for Covid. Does anyone know the implications? Should I tell my clinic? All the information online seems to be out of date and relevant to the pandemic rather than now. I’m worries my treatment will be cancelled and this will effect funding.
2/1/2024
Hi Jen. I asked my clinic this question as I work with Covid patients. They advised me to call the clinic if I ever tested positive but just incase it complicates things with the medication etc. they didn’t say anything about treatment delays. Hope your treatment will still go ahead!

Hi, I have been TTC for nearly 2 years now. My relationship with my partner ended in April this year, he struggled with TTC and wasn't open to trying IVF, blamed my age etc. I am 42. After struggling and coming out from the heartbreak, I decided to try IVF on my own with a sperm donor. I did the injections, 15 eggs retrieved, 9 fertilised, 3 made it to 5 days. Did genetic testing and only 1 is viable. I'm struggling and feel so alone trying to make important decisions such as when to do the implanting (scared it doesn't work) and I'm not sure I can face another cycle of meds and egg retrieval. At age 42, is it worth continuing with ivf for further cycles?

Myself & my partner have undergone 4 rounds of IVF which have unfortunately been unsuccessful. All rounds have been through the same clinic and although we have unexplained infertility the consultation has said he feels an egg donor would be the best route for us. Although I’m not against an egg donor I would like another consultants opinion and wanted to see if anyone could give some advice about finding an independent consultant rather than going through a clinic? Thanks

I'm in the exact same position now, never had one stick, now Dr says DE but I'm worried it could be more due to having great blast that are tested back in but none ever have stuck

I live in Scotland and i'm 41. I will only be entitled to one free round on the NHS. In panic mode that we only have one shot at this. We have unexplained infertility. Everything has came back fine. Talk me back down please. TIA x
15/1/2024
Ok, so I’m really trying not to add to your panic but I was in a similar situation (in Scotland) and missed out by over 6 months as I didn’t realise there is a waiting list and the rules state that you must have started screening (I.e. the pre- treatment blood tests done by the IVF provider) by your 42nd birthday. This was last year so hopefully the wait has dropped but if you haven’t been referred to your nearest IVF centre you need to get that sorted ASAP. Got everything crossed for you.
15/1/2024
Tia - hope you're keeping calm and have got through the panic mode! I know that feeling well. You've got to stay positive - you've done all the testing you can and it all sounds good. So cross fingers the IVF works for you. Stay positive. x
15/1/2024
Tia - I know that feeling!! All I can say is you're doing everything right and getting all the tests done. Stay calm and cross fingers everything will work out with your first round of IVF. x

Hi, I am struggling with the two week wait. I made the mistake of testing early (7 days post 5 day blastocyst transfer) and its negative so now fearing the worst it hasn't worked. I am single, doing this alone with donor sperm. 3 rounds of egg collection only resulted in a few eggs (frozen) and then only 1 embryo survived to day 5. This feels like my very last chance to be a parent and I can't stop thinking it hasn't worked. Has anyone else had a negative test on day 7 and then a positive outcome ?

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has had fertility treatment using a donor egg...and if so how did it go? I am now 45 and myself and my partner are wanting a baby. I have a decent AmH of 14.9 but I am still being advised to use a donor egg. Was it a smooth (and successful) process? Did you use a UK based or international clinic?
22/12/2023
Hiya - well the great news is that you still have a brilliant AMH for being 45 years old! I (unfortunately) couldn't go down the donor egg route in the end but did lots of research on it and spoke to a great clinic in Spain called IVI Bilbao which I would highly recommend (and friends of mine had been to). The process sounds relatively straight forward. I was told that the chance of conceiving naturally for me would increase by about 80% with a donor egg but then my AMH was around the 2 mark! I was told that doing donor in the UK was a lot longer process and less donor eggs to choose from. The main difference in whether to progress in the UK or internationally is that there is a 'right to know' here in the UK and the donor is not kept anonymous. Really good luck with everything - exciting times!!
22/12/2023
Thanks for that Katie....we are sort of considering the donor egg scenario, and the clinic has advised Spain. The issue now is we both work full time - and of course the cost! I wish it was easier in the UK
5/1/2024
We used donor eggs in Scotland and have had 1 successful pregnancy and live birth (he will be 1 on the 16th) I am now pregnant again after our 2nd FET on 18th December 😊 good luck in you journey x

Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone else has undergone treatment having Asherman's syndrome or scar tissue before? We had 2 unsuccesful transfers in 2022 and this year 2 surgeries for Asherman's and looking for a bit of good news and hope :) We're actually swapping Dr's as had done 2023 surgeries through NHS but aren't super convinced about the recommendations we're getting around our IVF and fertility journey so looking abroad again.

15/12/2023
Feeling overwhelmed as I've been TTC since July this year and I've never been pregnant ever..Myself and my partner met late in life, and as we're both in our 40's and sadly no positive pregnancy tests meant my GP was extremely on the ball in checking my hormone levels etc immediately. Basically I was warned before even trying that I wasn't eligible for any free IVF through the NHS in my area in my age bracket. So I knew it would cost us if the going got tough. Money is difficult for us. So I want to be extremely careful who I choose clinic wise...No one is 'nearby'. I am 42 with a extremely low AmH of under 0.2 so I don't know who would accept me anyway. The fertility nurse at my local hospital has been lovely ...but waiting times is hugs and I'm keen to get on with things and have more investigations done as I was booked in for the wrong vaginal Ultra sound so I want my ovaries, follicules looked at more extensively than (just the outside). I turn 42 end of Jan, so you can understand the rush. It's the cut off many times over to use your own eggs, apply for grants etc etc. Oh and my BMI is 36 so I'm under pressure mentally to lose as quickly as possible to get on a waiting list..Which is going well but making me irritable. So ideally I'm desperately seeking low cost or free fertility counselling as well before choosing a clinic. and I don't know where to turn ....I'm crying all the time ...or angry and taking it out on my poor partner...please help :-(
19/12/2023
Hi - firstly I just want to say, try not to worry as you are absolutely doing the right things! I know that's easier said than done but all the testing you're doing is great so that you know your 'starting' point. Now that you're having to go private - are you looking at clinics in London or locally to you? I was at the ARGC but they are pretty expensive and you feel like you're on a bit of a conveyer belt. I would recommend trying to have a chat with a clinician called Tarek El-Toukhy who's based at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital as he will be able to give you some honest, trustworthy advice which is what you need now. Sending you a big hug and if you want advice on someone to talk to from a coaching perspective let me know.
19/12/2023
The only ones local to me but still difficult to get by public transport is Woking or Kingston ..Technically London is just as easy or difficult to get too for me..Let me know how the coaching aspect works ..as i would appreciate the support...I desperately need a supportive ear...but I don't seem to qualify for free fertility therapy support? And the therapists I shortlisted are £60 a hour the cheapest?

Hi all, just starting out on our IVF Journey. Wondered if anyone has done at home viral screening for Hiv, Hep B and Hep C to meet the legal requirements? the quoted cost to do these at the clinic is rather high.
14/12/2023
Hi Tracey, I actually managed to get all my viral screening done at my local GP's along with a full set of blood tests (not sure how I managed that!) but a friend of mine did the at home tests and she said they were really good & easy to do. Good luck with everything and let us all know how you get on!

Hi everyone, we have been TTC for 2.5 years since my ectopic ending in my left tube having to be removed. I will be 44 in June, my partners sperm morphology was a little low when we last had it tested 6 months ago. I have been looking into IVF but worried because of my age. Anybody similar age to me that has had success on their first round? We would only be able to have 1 cycle due to funds. Thank you for reading 💕
10/12/2023
Hi Jenny - firstly I'm so sorry that you've been through a lot in the last few years but you're absolutely not too old to get a little bit of help through IVF. I did it twice when I was 44 so we aren't too old. I would get your partner tested again before you do as this can change quite dramatically in 6 months. Really good luck if you decide to go for it. x
10/12/2023
Jenny have you tried to get IVF on the NHS? I'm not sure what the criteria would be but it was just a thought
11/12/2023
Hi thank you both for your replies 💗 @Natwood did IVF work for you? Yes I will request a repeat test for my partner. Thank you so much 🫶🏻🙏 Hi Katie I was going to and then on the day I was due to go for blood tests they called and said I wouldn’t be able to have it done as it is only done on the NHS before your 43rd birthday, it was about 4/5 weeks before my birthday so that was a very upsetting day for me and was also very cruel 😕
11/12/2023
Oh god Jenny I can't believe that! That is so unlucky and as you say must have felt very cruel. Okay so on a more positive note there are definitely options!
11/12/2023
Jenny it worked for me second time round. I was told to manage my expectations because when you're in your 40's it's obviously harder to get pregnant after one round. But that said, if you get all your testing done before and during that should make the chances so much better. I didn't do any embryo testing first time round and I wished I had (or at least had known about what my options were).

Hi everyone, we are hoping to begin our IVF treatment around January/ February time. I take ‘pregnacare - preconception’ tablets, I’m a healthy weight and eat a generally balanced diet. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thank you in advance. We have been TTC over 2 years now and although this is a positive step forward I can’t help but feel overwhelmed and nervous. Any help/ advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you x
10/12/2023
Hi Courtnie - how exciting that you're starting early next year - good luck! It sounds like you're doing all the right things. I know it can feel really daunting but honestly it's really not that bad. Once you get 'in the zone' you hardly think about the injections etc and they all just become routine. Let us know how you get on!

Hi everyone, Is it possible to test the embryos for diseases like alzheimer?
11/12/2023
Hi - I thought PGT testing was only for Downs Syndrome, Teddy's syndrome and one other (I can't remember). I thought they were only still testing the test for alzheimer's but it wasn't officially approved yet. Sorry that might not be very helpful!

I sometimes find it so hard at this time of year because I have to pretend to be all jolly when I've actually got so many other more important things to think about. Christmas sometimes feels a bit frivolous when you're going through your 3rd round of IVF. Does anyone else feel like this at times???
8/12/2023
I totally know what you mean Katie. Although sometimes I find there are more distractions at this time of year which makes the time go faster!

Hi all - new here and 2DPT. Just had a FET on Monday (our first time), have had 4 cycles cancelled previously due to my lining not getting thick enough. How do you cope with the anxiety in this two week wait? This is all myself and my wife want, and I am so worried for a negative result. I have some symptoms now such as lower back ache, headache, but i think these are the progesterone and not the transfer.
7/12/2023
Oh it is soooo hard in that 2 week wait. Keep strong and try not to worry. Deep breathing helped me to keep calm and I kept myself distracted by watching a lot of box sets!!
7/12/2023
Box sets are great. I watched the entire series of selling sunset. Plan a date night too, something for you both to look forward too!
7/12/2023
Date nights are a great idea!! I'd get a couple of those in the diary in the 2 weeks. Fingers are crossed for you guys Hannah x

7/12/2023

Hi, I have just had my first egg collection and none of then fertilised. They collected 13 eggs and apprantley only 5 were mature. But no fertilisation! I dont understand what this means
1/12/2023
Hi - I'm sorry to hear that none of your eggs fertilised but don't worry this can be due to a number of reasons and just because this happens once doesn't mean that it will happen again. I would speak to your specialist as they might decide to vary the cycle stimulation the next time which will produce more mature eggs or a larger numbers of eggs. Sperm may also be better the next go-around. Hope this helps and good luck for next time!

Hello! Has anyone had a varicocele embolised? My partner has one and has had two poor semen analysis results. He’s just done a DNA fragmentation ahead of our first round of ivf but apparently if the result is bad there’s little we can do. Thoughts welcome
8/12/2023
Hi Sarah, I'm sorry it's taken us some time to get back to you on your questions around varicocele embolism. I have now reached out to our Expert Panel and have some thoughts for you from Jonathan Ramsey, our resident male fertility specialist, that I hope will be helpful. Please see his response below: "The important thing is to wait for long enough after the embolisation for improvements. These improvements take 4 months and sometimes longer. DNA fragmentation tests may be a better way of assessing improvement than “ordinary “ semen analyses. It maybe that the Varicocoele was not the only contributing factor, and if this was the case, improvements may only be marginal. I wish you both well, Jonathan Ramsay"

Hi, has anyone done IVF through Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London? I have been approved for funding but they don't cover genetic testing so I would have to get a private to pick up, test and deliver back. Is it worth it?
27/11/2023
Hi J - that's great news that you've been approved for funding. Most places don't cover genetic testing and often you have to send off for testing. I was at the ARGC and I had to do this. It's definitely worth it if you have the time - your timings are the key! x
27/11/2023
I'm 38, turning 39 in January. Chelsea and Westminster will cover 1 fresh and 1 frozen round. They said it will take up to 2 months to freeze, transport test and return. I'm kind of thinking maybe if they only get 1-2 viable embryos to not bother, but if more then to get them tested so I don't waste time with duds? X

hello, iv recently gotten my 1st cycle of egg freezing done. i am 35, and retrieved 28 eggs for storage (3 died). i am trying to decide now if i wish to go ahead for another cycle. is it worth it? if my plan might be to have x2kids one day and (continued)
17/11/2023
...whereby I may need these stored eggs to use (that may be of better quality)- is it worth doing a 2nd cycle? or is 28 eggs in cycle 1 enough?
17/11/2023
Hi Michelle - well done on getting through your 1st cycle of egg freezing and to retrieve 28 eggs too is great. When you look at the research for the 35 year old age group, one egg freezing cycle resulted in 12 eggs frozen on average for this age group so many women only need to do one cycle of egg freezing to achieve the optimal egg number!
17/11/2023
There's quite a good article below which might give you a bit of a guide. https://fertilityspace.io/blog/this-is-how-many-eggs-you-should-freeze-based-on-your-age Ultimately everyone's different so it's best to speak with your reproductive endocrinologist about your AMH Levels and your options. Thanks :) I am under the care of an endometriosis specialist from a bsge center and have had surgery for stage 4 endometriosis. I need further surgery but have been advised to go for IVF now due to the severity of disease IL likely be left with a stoma and may loose my uterus. Our fertility issues are actually male factor...obviously endo won't be helping our chances but I haven't any proven fertility issues myself . Our first cycle failed but we still have a great quality 5AA embryo which we hope to implant next week. Just wondering what others experiences in a similar situation were? Thanks again X

10/12/2023
Is there any help you can offer? I have had fluid appear in lining in fresh cycle (cancelled), fluid there on day 9 of a month waiting for IVF FET, then fluid appearing from day 12 of medicated FET cycle, where by day 14, the lining getting thinner. Is there any chance this will ever get better?

2/11/2023
Hi Charlie, I totally understand how you feel, having been through about 8 rounds myself. You will feel bloated in advance of the retrieval and a bit uncomfortable after it for a short period of time. If you are really frightened by it can't you ask your clinic to put you under for the retrieval? I'm sure they will if you ask.

27/10/2023
Hi Laura, so sorry to hear this 😞 I hope you are doing okay x
2/11/2023
Hi Laura, you poor thing, I know how you feel when things don't work out, I have had 8 rounds in my life. I think being fatalistic about the outcome is the only way you can move forwards, and that perhaps the embryo wasn't right and wouldn't have made it full term. Each time my round failed I went quite quickly onto a new one and I regret that because you need to take time to heal first and often the second attempt was too quick and my body didn't respond so well. Be kind to yourself and try and do something which makes you feel good. I am sending you lots of sympathy but positive vibes for the future.

Had a faint line on my test date which was last Thursday, since the same day I have had a very light bleeding which is mostly brown like a rusty colour and little pink every now and again I want to believe this is implantation bleeding but I'm now on day 5
23/10/2023
Its also gone a bit more red today, is this a sign of miscarriage?

Day 6 of norethisterone and cramping. Is this normal?
23/10/2023
Hi Lexi, sorry to hear that you're experiencing cramping. This can be a side effect, but if you are struggling with this we'd recommend getting in touch with your doctor or pharmacist x

Hi all,
16/10/2023
Sorry I pressed enter by mistake. My partner and I started trying to conceive in 2017 with no luck. In January this year we started our IVF journey. The first round with a fresh embryo transfer we conceived but I had a mis miscarriage at 8 weeks. We have since had two frozen embryo transfers but no success. I currently feel very alone dispite my family support. We have another cycle to do but I think we are going to wait until the new year for us to deal with everything emotionally. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Thanks
19/10/2023
We just had our first failed IVF. It's hard and lonely Road. My husband gives a lot of support but not our siblings or parents. We are emotionally drained and a hard thing to explain to others. I agree though heal and try again. That's what we are allowing ourselves to do.

Have been told to choose between sedation and gas and air for egg collection. But sedation is incredibly light as they dont have an anethasist on site I would be fully awake. What should I choose?t
16/10/2023
Hi Lexi, we understand that it can be difficult to decide between the two. It might be best to research into both options further, and decide which sounds most suited to you? Maybe you could speak to your clinic about the different options. Wishing you all the best for your collection x
19/10/2023
Lexi, have you made a decision? I'm also unsure which path to choose here. They said that it's often decided on the day how I feel but a little scared either way.
19/10/2023
Hi Sophia. No I havent chosen yet. When is yours roughly likely to be? Mine is likely to be WC 6th of November if all goes tp plan.
21/11/2023
Hi Lexi, did it all go to plan? What did you choose in the end? x

I'm on 1500mg Metformin per day and getting very bad side effects - weakness, extreme tiredness, vomiting, metallic taste in mouth, dry mouth etc. It's significantly impacting my day to day life. My clinic told me to continue as is. Is that right?
12/10/2023
Hi, we're sorry to hear that you're struggling with the side effects of your medication. Have these symptoms continued? If so, it may be worth speaking with your clinic about this again?

My Fertility doctor recommended Clomid as she said it's better for PCOS. I have been doing some online research and saw that most studies showed that Letrozole had better success rates with PCOS. Anyone had this experience?

Ask the Expert Event February: Find out how practising Yoga can boost your fertility

Our Ask the Expert sessions are a fantastic opportunity to ask your questions directly to our leading fertility specialists. This month we are thrilled to be joined by Alex Taylor who has been a yoga teacher for over 11 years specialising in fertility and wellness.

Date: 27 February 2024

Host: Jennifer Elworthy, Career & Fertility Coach

Expert: Alex Taylor, Yoga Teacher specialising in fertility & wellness

Our Ask the Expert sessions are a fantastic opportunity to ask your questions directly to our leading fertility specialists. This month we are thrilled to be joined by Alex Taylor who has been a yoga teacher for over 11 years specialising in fertility and wellness.  She has been supporting women and men on their fertility journey through wellness days and workshops which help prepare the body for undergoing the physical and emotional challenges of an IVF cycle and fertility treatment.

Coping with infertility is no easy task and the immense disappointment when treatments are unsuccessful can leave you feeling that your efforts towards conceiving are exhaustive.  Studies have shown that low-impact yoga can significantly increase conception success rates in women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment. When you are investing significant amounts of time, money and emotion into an IVF cycle, you want to do everything you can to make it successful.

In many cases, Yoga can be the natural technique to enhance fertility when combined with other treatments. It doesn’t directly improve sperm or egg quality but is important for a fertility-promoting lifestyle. In fact, there are certain postures that can help improve your fertility and the overall health and Science supports yoga's role in conception. A study found yoga improved success rates in couples using assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Yoga helps patients with infertility manage complex emotions during fertility treatments

If you are looking to embrace the transformative power of yoga and allow it to support you on your path to parenthood then join us for this essential live event and don’t miss out on the opportunity to ask your questions directly to our expert.

Fertility treatment can be challenging regardless of where you are and what stage or age you are, but our experts are here to help and support your journey by answering the questions that are important to you.

Ask the Expert Event: January: Understanding Functional medicine and testing: How fit are you for fertility treatment?

Our Ask the Expert sessions are a fantastic opportunity to ask your questions directly to our leading fertility specialists. This month we are thrilled to be joined by Dr Amalia Annaradnam, a GP and hormone specialist who is passionate about helping patients find root causes to their health concerns and treating naturally whenever possible.  With her unrivalled clinical expertise, Amalia combines a more holistic approach to fertility health.  If you’re having trouble getting pregnant naturally, you’ve been diagnosed with unexplained infertility, or you want to optimise your body before trying to conceive, to increase success of a sustained and healthy pregnancy then it is worth looking at a functional approach to fertility.

Functional medicine and testing are a new branch of medicine which is becoming more and more popular particularly because it focuses on the body as a whole rather than separate organs and systems.  It is an approach that involves finding the root cause of fertility imbalances through a patient-centric and science-backed method. This is done through various investigations via targeted testing.  Amalia will be offering advice and guidance on what you need to consider if you are looking at undertaking functional testing and how you can improve your chances of getting pregnant.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to ask your questions on anything to do with this form of testing.

The Safe Space - members virtual community catch up

This is a welcoming, confidential, nurturing and judgement free space for women impacted by fertility issues. We hope you can join us to meet other members and gain support from The IVF Network community.

Date: Thursday 4th January 2024

Time: 7-7.30pm

Host: Charlotte Gentry, Founder & CEO, The IVF Network

Expert: Melanie Brown, Nutritional Therapist, Specialist in Fertility, IVF and Pregnancy

Our Members Virtual Community Catch-Up sessions are a safe space for members to connect, share stories, ask questions, and gain support from other members of The IVF Network who know exactly what you’re going through. This month we will be looking at kick starting the new year with a “targeted nutritional plan to help boost your fertility”. We are delighted to be joined by Melanie Brown who is a specialist nutritional expert with over twenty years’ experience working with both men and women to improve their fertility through diet and lifestyle.  Melanie will share her knowledge on how what you eat can affect your fertility and her top tips on how you can boost your fertility through diet.

Nutrition affects fertility in a huge number of ways and it’s important to understand that the food we eat affects all our cells – and that eggs and sperm are no different from any other cell.  If this is one area you haven’t focused on since you started your fertility journey then now is the ideal time to look at implementing a good nutrition plan to support your treatment.  If you are unsure where to start, then Mel can help you understand the specific foods that have been shown to help with the outcome of IVF.  Plus, don’t miss out on the opportunity to ask your questions.

This is a welcoming, confidential, nurturing and judgement free space for women impacted by fertility issues. We hope you can join us to meet other members and gain support from The IVF Network community.
