Ovulation and tracking your cycle.I thought it might be helpful to give a quick guide on tracking your cycle and your ovulation. A regular cycle can range for 21 – 35 days, with the average being around 28 days.Your cycle day 1 counts from the first day of full flow bleeding – not spotting.Ovulation (release of your egg) usually takes place around 14 days before your next period.Ovulations signs include an increase in cervical mucus and mild abdo and back pain. You can test for ovulation by using an ovulation predictor kit, these test the urine for LH – lutenising hormone which tells us that ovulation has occurred.Eggs don’t stay around for long after ovulation, so if you have ovulated then you need to have intercourse or insemination in order to fertilise the egg. Eggs stay viable for around 36-40 hours. Do a pregnancy test 2 weeks post ovulation Please let me know if you have any questions on ovulation or tracking your cycle.Take care,Fran
